Around 1923 the Town’s
line--up included Tommy Wield , the skipper , ex Lincoln City
and John Dunne , another former Imp and an Irish League ‘cap’ , while at outside - left was George “Soapy”
Smith, who was signed by Grimsby Town circa 1926.
Other players who journeyed from Lincoln to assist ‘Errins
were Bullivant, the left back, Don Dovey later of Lincoln City
and Grantham, the inside left and that brilliant goalkeeper ,

What
price Tomlinson
In the 1930s The News reported that former Town player Tomlinson had
scored his first goal for Grimsby Town against Middlesbrough;
similarly , in the same decade there was a lengthy report
Grimsby and Leeds showing interest in Town star George Rudkin.

Pictured
in the centre above George Rudkin who played for one of
Horncastle’s great sides in the 1930s. He went on to play
for Carlisle, Middlesbrough and Mansfield as a professional.
